Catching up on Rhett & Link after not watching for awhile (reasons) and today's episode title is "Hastag War!"  You can watch below but the gist is this: Rhett and Link want the hashtag #GMM to be exclusively theirs, but two other morning shows use it: Good Morning Memphis and Good Morning Maryland, both on TV.

Rhett and Link called on their viewers, known as Mythical Beasts, to tweet the two news programs and their anchors asking them to surrender the hashtag.  In exchange, Rhett and Link offered to write a jingle for both shows, royalty-free.  Not only a great deal for the stations (the jingles will be good) but a smart move for Rhett and Link.  Way to get some TV publicity.  Maybe it's local, but stories like that tend to get picked up nationally, especially if they have national appeal.  And that's good for all three shows.  So for me, this is the best thing Rhett and Link have ever done on Twitter and the response from the news shows has been hilarious.  On both sides, this is how it's done.
Maryland weatherman -- I mean Meteorologist Mike Masco came out swinging EARLY (8:30 am!) with a human sacrifice, anchor Megan Pringle.

Then Megan's husband left her on her own!  And insulted Rhett and Link fans in the process.

Rob and Megan both took the tweets personally and had overly serious responses.  That's not how you do social, particularly when it's something clearly for fun.  But they have serious jobs and likely have to deal with a lot of internet trolls so it's understandable.

No official response yet from the Maryland show, though the night crew got a lil fiesty.

Their response is funny but the guy WAS tweeting on National Caps Lock Day.  Or at least that's what Rhett and Link told us.

Memphis anchor Ernie Freeman had this awesome exchange (funnier if you watch the episode below first.)

He was having to report on the fatal crash of a hospital helicopter while dealing with all our nonsense.  But he did.  All day.  And he was flawless.

Still nothing official from the Memphis station.

Memphis Anchor Valerie Calhoun generously linked to the episode, but look out -- not sure I'd click anything tagged #mythicalmen on twitter, Val!

Here's the episode below.

And see Day 2 of the Hashtag War here.
