It was Christmas Day a few years ago and Walgreen's was open. Forget what I went in for but there they were at the register -- Charlie Brown Christmas trees for $2.50 each. I'd wanted one ever since I first saw them in a high-end catalog for $30 years before. For $30 I can get a live tree, so this markdown seemed more reasonable.
This tree shouldn't be expensive. It's kind of the point. A Charlie Brown tree says, "none of it matters". The lights and the events and the shopping -- quit working so hard at celebrating peace. Find some people you love, gather around a swaddled twig and sing some songs. Christmas.
"I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It's not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love."
