My favorite geek activity is collaborating creatively. Sometimes it's in person -- filming Vines with my nephews or working with a full creative team. Sometimes it's online. Friends I made during a YouTube project are still working together. Recently I've been writing lyrics for a couple musicians and I got to write some scenes for an animator. After years in journalism, this has been like revisiting finger painting or something. No lines, no plan, just adding color and seeing where it goes. I'm working parts of my brain (and maybe my heart) that I must have left in the high school band room. Yeah, I did poetry during these recent years, and crafty bits, but there's something about collaborating that takes you out of your ruts and just makes you better. Like the changes in this blog (hopefully). When I blogged during the journalism years, my posts were so serious, like my job. Couldn't turn it off, I guess. But in this new season I wanted something else. So I thought -- what if I just write about these people who've been inspiring me? They'll probably inspire you, too, right? So you'll be meeting them along the way. Geeky friends on my geeky blog. What do you create? And who do you share the process with?
