Favorite holiday movies made me think of holiday TV episodes. I have a few favorites. Guess my favorite oldie is The Brady Bunch's The Voice of Christmas. Carol loses her voice and Cindy asks Santa for her to be able to sing on Christmas. "Mommy's got larry-gitis. Real bad." I include this because it's on YouTube. You'll recognize Otis from The Andy Griffith Show as Santa. Another runner-up is The West Wing's "In Excelsis Deo". You don't have to have watched the series to follow this episode. It's on Netflix (season 1, episode 10). And one of the best ever.
My all-time fave is "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas", from the second season of Community. It's a tribute to the stop-motion Christmas specials of the past, but surpasses them in wit and depth. Plus, a friend of mine worked on the stop-motion set art! This one's very special to me. Now, if I were using the same criteria as with holiday movies, my favorite would have to be A Charlie Brown Christmas (free on Hulu right now). The Community episode (on Hulu Plus) is not for little kids. But my nephews love it and I would show this to even my most G-rated adult friends. It's a stand-alone episode that helps you get to know each of the characters. And the fact that it even got made is its own Christmas miracle. It's my favorite and I'm sticking to it. Which TV episodes are your holiday favorites?
